People in this directory have requested to be listed but have NOT gone through a screening process by the Grinnell Area Arts Council. Below are some suggestions about choosing a music teacher or instructor from the Music Teachers National Association.
Consult with friends, family and others who are acquainted with teachers in your community.
Ask for recommendations from local music teacher organizations, music stores, schools or churches.
Arrange to interview prospective teachers, in person if possible, before making a commitment.
Ask permission to attend a recital of the prospective teacher's students.
Another source for teachers in many disciplines is the Iowa Art Council's Teaching Artists Roster. Artists represented in their roster have successfully undergone a peer panel review process that evaluates their artistic and instructional abilities and achievements as they relate to Artists in Schools and Communities Residencies. Artists are listed by last name, city, or discipline. Currently there are no artists listed in Grinnell but there are a number in Des Moines and Iowa City.
