GRINNELL COMMUNITY BAND

The Grinnell Community Band (formerly the Grinnell Municipal Band) played its first concert on June 15, 1988, with Jack Williams directing.

The band’s original board of directors included Dr. JR Paulson and Larry and Elsie Johnson. It became a program under the umbrella of the Arts Council in 2011. Each summer, the band performs in Central Park as part of the Music in the Park series, as well as for other local events such as Memorial Day services. It’s common to see multiple generations of family members (and maybe some of your neighbors!) playing a variety of concert band music together.
